This week Rm 3 maths class did some Place Value Partitioning Strategy.

Genomics

Task Description: 

This term and last term we have been learning about genomics.

Poem of Happiness

Happiness is Yellow,

smells like fresh baked cookies.

Happiness looks like a bright color that will always shine bright.

The sound of happiness is laughter and joy.

Happiness feels like you don’t want it to end,and you want it to continue more in life.

Science Experiment

Aim:We trying to see a clear picture of an onion cell

Hypothesis:

The magnification will be see 10 times

Equipment:

• A Onion
• A Slide
• Cover Slip
• Tweezers
• Blue Dye

Method:

we took off a layer of an onion with a tweezer,then we put it on the slide.

We did two drops of saline,and then another two drops of blue dye.

Then after that we put the cover slip on,then put it in the microscope to

see what the onion cells looks like.

Observation:

It looked like purple lines with a bit of light,but with purple spot.

Maths Revision

WALT: Revise what we already know.Task Description:This week was the first week of school and we did a presentation that helps us remember how to solve  answers  to an equation faster and easier.

Spaghetti and Marshmallow Tower

Today we learnt about how to demonstrate what Smart Relationships is and qualities about it.Our challenge for today was to build a Spaghetti and Marshmallow Tower with 15 sticks,1 big marshmallow in 15 minutes. When we started I was very excited to win and thought it would be easy,but as we started to build I didn't know what to do.As we were still trying to build,we broke parts of the marshmallow and put each of the Spaghetti sticks on each part of the small marshmallows, that we broke.We looked around to see how everybody else's one was going and some fell.

It was five minutes left and we still couldn't make our tower stand,our hands were sticky and our spaghetti sticks were mostly covered with marshmallow.Our tower wasn't in place but we were still trying to make stand.We only had less time left,we were struggling to make our tower stand 3...2...1... STOP! our teacher came to measure our tower but then it fell.She measured it and our height measure was 3 centimetres.We almost lost but at least we came 4th.The qualities that my team had and did was being helpful,patient,communication and loyal.

Stealing To Survive

WALT:Justify Our Ideas

Task Description:

This week in Room 5 Literacy we learnt about why is it ok or why is it not ok to steal.Well my questions in my head were is it ok to steal on purpose,is it ok to save your family,well what would chose.

Technology Wood

Step 1 I used a piece of wood,a pencil and a steel ruler to make a full size
working drawing of my Box because it will show proof that it can be made and
that I can make too. Step 2 I also used a Tri-square to copy the measurements
from my drawing onto the wood that I’m using. Step 3 I marked a square line at
90 degrees across the wood to make it straight. Step 4 I cut off the first piece of
wood carefully using a Backed saw and a Bench hook. Step 5 I then marked
out the joint using a Tri-Square to check if it was straight.Step 6 I used a
Backed saw again to cut the line and stopped in the middle of the side of my
wood.Step 9 after I cut it,I used a Wood Chisel to make a joint on both of my
wood.Step 10 I got two spare of flat wood to make the sides of my box.Step 11
I glued all the pieces together and used rubber bands to tighten it,now I have
to wait for 30 minutes.Step 12 after 30 minutes my box dried up and now I am
getting a lid for my box.Step 13 I finished.

Evaluation

For my project I have created turned out to be very good,and I am actually
proud of myself for finishing it on time,than taking my time.Before I made my
Box I also had other ideas that I couldn’t have done. The ideas that I would’ve
done was a truck,jewellery tree, helicopter, bus,skateboard,ship,and a pencil
holder.But I made my decision and made a Box.I actually thought making a
Box was going to be easy but turned out to be hard.The working drawing of
my Box started of with a joint,then draw a box using a pencil and ruler to know
when I am going to stop measuring.The height of my woods was both 160
centimetres,and also the bottom wood.The marking out of my Box was very
important,I am very nervous that my teacher going to say that had mistakes
but it was actually OK.When I used a backed saw I was very nervous and
scared that thought I was going to cut my hand.The chiselling was kind of
scary too, because I thought I was going to chisel the wrong part of my wood.
After that I put all my pieces together.I looked at what I have done and checked
if it worked probably,and stayed together.If I had to make another box than this
one right now it would look better. 

De-extinction

Multiplication

Healing Honey

This week we learnt about Healing honey and we now know that honey is like a medicine.The person who investigated that honey is healing was Professor Peter Molan, he knew that other types of honey is healing too, which is Manuka honey.Check it out.

Pause & Think Online

Task Description:

Today we learnt about online things and what you should be doing.We learnt to Pause & Think before you do something online like posting or replying.The things that we also learnt to do before you do something online was Think,Feel,Listen,Balance and Stand.

What Do You Want To Change?

WALT: Plan out a persuasive piece of writing

Task Description:

In Room 5 literacy we are now learning about Persuasive writing.We had 5 topics to do and they were Home,School,Class,Community and the World as you can see.The reason why we are learning about Persuasive writing because we need to practice convincing people about our story,article or something else. For an example of my writing I explained why I wanted to make the world a better place and I do.

The Past Beneath Our Feet

WALT: Practise taking notes before during and after reading Task Description:This week we read a book called The Past Beneath Our Feet and it is about a man named Atholl Anderson,he is a Archaeologist and palaeontologist.We also learnt how to note take from the story.Check our results out.

Technology Wood

In Technology Wood I have chosen to make a Box for myself.I think this Box is the best choice because it will be used for putting jewellery and money in it. This box will feel like a memory to me because it will remind me about what Technology Wood was like and what we had to do.I will cherish this Box so it can be a memory until I die, so when I look at my box it will take my memory back when I was a year 8.

Holidays

WALT: Use descriptive language to share our holiday experiences

Task Description: In the holidays my family and I went to visit was Pokeno,The Garden next to the Museum, and the Cinemas.The First place was Pokeno it was hot because we were all squished in one van,but lucky we made it.The Second place that we went to the The Garden next to the Museum and it was so peaceful and quite,it felt like there were barely anybody there.Then we went to the Cinemas,at the we watched The Lion King.The Lion King was the different to the cartoon because of the voices and places.After all that we went to burger king to eat because most of us were starving.At night we played spotlight,we were everywhere around the house,I was pushing and pulling people out of my way so I can win.

Setting Discription

The tree trunks were green as the grass, as it is blooming as the sun goes by.The leaves were dancing
around as peaceful birds come along to sing peaceful songs.The grass is fresh as the warm air blows in
my face.The animals danced with the leaves as they looked very happy to have a life.

World Map

Task Description:

Well this term we have been learning about longitude and latitude.If you don't know what longitude and latitude are,they are the lines around the earth,it tells you where north,south,east and west.if don't know why we are learning about longitude and latitude,well it is because we need to know what the longitude and latitude for the seven continents.Continents are a big landscape with countries in it any worlds main continuous expanses of the land.I will name the continents biggest to smallest,they are Asia,Africa,North America,South America,Antarctica,Europe and Australia.Check out my scratch.
